Eddie Yu is an Accredited Trainer and a faculty member of the Centre for Playback Theatre’s Leadership course, a guest trainer at the SPT (Japan), and Co-Director of the SPT (Hong Kong) from 2017 to 2024. He has been fortunate to teach Playback Theatre internationally at various levels.
A member of London Playback Theatre and True Heart Theatre from 2006 to 2009, Eddie returned to Hong Kong in 2009, where he co-founded Encounter Playback Theatre and served as Co-Artistic Director from 2009 to 2024.
With qualification in Social Work, Drama Therapy, Developmental Transformations, Psychodrama Psychotherapy and Creative Approaches in Supervision, Eddie works as a freelance psychotherapist, as well as trainer, supervisor, consultant and simultaneous interpreter in applied theatre & psychotherapy. He is also an honorary lecturer of The University of Hong Kong, part-time teacher of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and a consultant for a Hong Kong-based NGO. He has a special interest in working with people with trauma, bereavement, criminal and mental health issues. He is the printing supervisor and co-author of ‘Playback Theatre Campus Positive Psychology Programme Teaching Toolkit’, and co-author of ‘Whispering Thoughts’, a creative card set about belief systems. In addition to Playback Theatre, Eddie also practises Theatre of the Oppressed and Forum Theatre.
