Heart of the Art: Ethics for Playback Theatre

“The ethics of theatre is not right for Playback Theatre. The ethics of psychology, while a closer fit, is not right either. And the unsettled ethics of social change does not present a unified model to turn to.” – Jonathan Fox

From its beginning Playback Theatre was always a practice with ethical demands because we deal with personal stories. But with growth, Playback Theatre ethics has become more complicated.

Join Jonathan Fox, co-founder of Playback Theatre, assisted by Hoa My Nguyen, for an engaging online course exploring ethical best practices in today’s world. Through eight lessons and three live Zoom meetings, you’ll gain practical tools to deepen your ethical awareness and strengthen your practice.

We welcome playbackers of all experience levels—from newcomers to seasoned practitioners—creating a diverse and enriching learning environment. If you are ready to listen and reflect, we encourage you to apply.
