Course Sequence

Curriculum Pathway (Apr 2, 2019)

In response to the growing complexity of Playback work, and to encourage a stronger foundation of training, we are pleased to announce an updated curriculum framework.

This is a living document, and we hope it will inform and guide teachers and students all around the world.

Please read this letter to the community.

Here is a note about the significant changes.

*Hours refer to recommended duration of workshop. 6 hours are approximately equivalent to 1 training day. We recognize the different models of training held in different parts of the world, and are open to differences in duration and structure of training.

Level 2 Selected Topics

One of the following, or similar:
– Conducting II
– The Actor Onstage II
– Company Life
– The Physical Actor
– Spontaneity & Group Process
– Clowning & PT
– Building Justice
– Games, Songs and Warm-ups

Prerequisites:

Level 1 (Core Training):
– None.

Level 2:
– Has taken Core Training or has been an active company member for six months.

Level 3 (Advanced Practice):
– Has taken or fulfilled the equivalent of PT courses in Level 1 and 2.
– Has a minimum of one year’s experience outside of training that includes multiple rehearsals and performances.

Level 4 (Playback Theatre Leadership):
– Has taken Advanced Practice (Advanced Skills or Playback Theatre Practice), and with at least 5 years active experience in Playback Theatre.
– Has maintained respectful, cooperative, and supportive relationships within the Playback Theatre community: e.g. Connection to other Playback practitioners, member of a Playback company, member of IPTN (individual or company), etc.
– Commit to fulfil the independent study project requirements (see Leadership Application for details).

Applicants who do not meet the above Level 4 requirements may apply if they:
– Have 10 years of active experience, have attended trainings equivalent to Level 2 requirements, and have the written support of 2 Accredited Trainers.
– Have maintained respectful, cooperative, and supportive relationships within the Playback Theatre community: e.g. Connection to other Playback practitioners, member of a Playback company, member of IPTN (individual or company), etc.
– Commit to fulfil the independent study project requirements (see Leadership Application for details).
